After owning the same wallet for many years, it became worn down and was hanging together by a thread. I set out to find a new wallet, one that was unique but not gaudy or expensive. I eventually found the Stewart/Stand Stainless Steel Wallet and decided to give it a try.

Looking for a unique “geek” wallet, I had a choice between the Duct Tape wallet from ThinkGeek and the Stewart/Stand Stainless Steel Wallet. I opted for the latter even though I’ve never heard of the brand Stewart/Stand, as I assumed it would probably be more durable than duct tape.

Right after I ordered the product online, I happened to see a story on the news about thieves using a wand type device that they waved over your pocket or purse to steal credit card information from the little RFID chip embedded in most credit and debit cards. The Stainless Steel wallet is designed to protect against these types of thefts, as it can block the RFID signal from your credit cards and from the wand. This made me feel validated that I made the right choice in selecting this wallet.

I was able to find the Houndstooth style on Amazon.com, which isn’t available on the Stewart/Stand website. When the wallet arrived, I was surprised at how it felt and looked. The wallet is silver colored, as stainless steel thread is used to line the outside and insides of the wallet. The color is hard to describe and really doesn’t match many of the pictures of the wallet online. It feels smooth to the touch like silk, and is slightly flexible. I like how compact the wallet is, while still being able to hold 8 cards and cash (6 crossing card slots, 2 hidden back slots, and a fold for bills.) It doesn’t feel different from a regular cloth or leather wallet while it’s in your pocket, but it’s definitely more durable and doesn’t stretch / expand / fade like a leather wallet.

The box that the wallet comes in is pretty neat, too. It’s two pieces of wood held together by magnets, but designed in a way that looks great if you’re giving the wallet to somebody as a gift.

There’s a unique warranty for this wallet aside from the limited 90 day warranty. Steward/Stand will replace any Steward/Stand wallet that’s stolen from you during a criminal act (robbery.) You just send them the receipt and police report, and pay for the cost of shipping. A pretty interesting warranty, although I hope I’ll never have to use it.
